the beginning

i'm getting married next year. my fiance and i are going to be having a jewish wedding, and we'll need a huppah (wedding canopy), and we wanted something special, something we made ourselves. so we decided to make a quilt.
the quilt will be 72x72 inches, and pieced on both sides. it will be a 12x12 grid of 6 inch blocks. each block will a tone on tone crazy quilt. one side will be all shades of white, the other side all black. it will be bound in silver/grey. each block will represent a month, each row a year, for a total of 24 years. the unembroidered quilt will be used for our wedding, and afterwards, each month i will embroider a block with symbols and pictures of what happened that month. with a year to finish up anything left undone, the quilt will be done in time for our 25th wedding anniversary.
i've been collecting bits of fabrics for years, and i think i have almost all the fabric i need. i'm excited to get to work, and can't wait to get the fabric out of storage!
i also plan on making a set of scrap books to go with the quilt, with one page for each month, telling what happened, and what the symbols mean. this blog will journal the making of the quilt and the work and things that go along with it.
